Longitudinal Tension Test

The longitudinal tension test was performed as per ASTM D3039. Fig. a shows longitudinal tension test specimen equipped with strain gauge to measure strain and modulus installed in the machine. The stress-strain diagram (Fig. b) shows linear behavior and brittle failure under tension. Fig. c shows the mode of failure of the tested specimen. Failure is characterized by multiple longitudinal cracks in the 0° layers. Three-part failure code as per ASTM D3039 is SGM, S-long splitting, G-Gauge, and M-Middle. The measured Poisson’s ratio was 0.346 using the strain gauge measurements in both lateral and longitudinal directions as per ASTM D3039.
